Madoff's Prison Described As 'Camp Fluffy
After Bernie Madoff used to run the budget on the Butner Prison's landscaping crew, he didn't get the job. "Yeah correct I'd hire him as being a clerk," remarked the inmate in charge in the crew. "All our money'd be missing!"
Nicknamed "Camp Fluffy" for its commodious environs, Madoff's prison even features a soundproof music room -- and periodic "special treats" like popcorn and cotton candy.
Sentenced to 150 years at the Butner Federal Corrections Complex in North Carolina, Madoff apparently spends his time reading law books, John Grisham, and Dean Koontz--when he's not working his career inside the prison cafeteria. This is a single of many stories from a brand new episode of CNBC's "American Greed," which offers an exclusive seem to the infamous Ponzi-schemer's life of incarceration. The episode, titled "Madoff Behind Bars," will premiere tonight at 9pm.
"Madoff Behind Bars" features interviews with past and contemporary inmates who interacted in the financial scammer while in jail.
