Jim Carrey's rubbery, face hyperreal carries a burst of panic and desperate poverty in this comedy stranger-than-fiction drawn from real life. Steven Russell (Carrey) is a fraud, a plausible fantasy hypnosis, and an ex-wife ex-cop who comes out as a gay man before eventually sent to prison in Texas for insurance scams, and find love of his life. It is the shy, innocent young Phillip Morris, played well by Ewan McGregor, who, like the rest of the world trusts the exuberant and charming Steven implicitly. Morris himself tells his own story in a seductive, voice-over of honey, a bit like the story of Reese Witherspoon in Election Alexander Payne.

Electrified by his new novel, Steven redoubled his determination fanatic deceive and manipulate the world around him for what he believes he wants: Phillip. When his own prison sentence for Steven poses as a lawyer for Phillip parole - forgery, faking the voice on the phone, and maintaining a series of cliffs inspired - and then built a huge career in law fraudulent and funding, so they can live together in luxury as a gay couple super-rich. But it's not long before the end of police, and Steven must demonstrate almost superhuman talent for evading the law theoretically devoted miserable disappointment to his love for his beloved Phillip, who did not understand how he was an accomplice and co-dependent in the career of Steven delusional lies.

This film, writer-directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa - who wrote the comedy Bad Santa Billy Bob Thornton - is intriguing, at least in part because it is not immediately clear what it is centrally about. Steven own permanent identity crisis, which may result from the traumatic discovery of having been adopted, has a parallel in the film. Is this gay romance? Is this a criminal career con man? Are we the public supposed to trust Steven Russell, to take him to his own estimate of himself?

Not really, no. Even calling him a fraudster does not describe the nature Carrey plays. His compulsive lying is a habit of addiction as kleptomania, it forces him to live in a growing network of relationships based on bad faith, from which most scams will be needed to escape. Like many liars, Steven has developed an engaging personality and mischievous as a blanket for when he is caught and must admit guilt, and as a face saving device to allow his victims to make faces and pretend to sort of doubt. Steven is not a crook in the sense of a cool, rational hustler who knows exactly what he did and why. It is in the grip of a compulsion, which distracts a batsqueak of terror that he does not know what or who he is. Steven takes on messianic his gay identity and gay love for Phillip Morris. The film's title is a sort of personal mission statement. But in the end, this passion can not fully explain his behavior.

Steven soon-to-be-ex-wife Debbie, played by Leslie Mann, ask a doctor if Steven "gay thing and theft are part of the same disease. Steven then-boyfriend Jimmy, played by Rodrigo Santoro, is disgusted by this homophobic remark. And yet, Debbie, his clumsy, came close to something. He is not gay Steven is a room with his flight, but his claiming to be right and argue that his embrace of a gay identity is a solution to all his personal problems. What matters is the disappointment, and how it blends in self-deception.

With its checkered history and winding way, I Love You Phillip Morris reminds me of surreal films like Zodiac serial killer, David Fincher, Cedric Kahn and Roberto Succo Vengeance Shohei Imamura's mine is - about criminals whose modus operandi and repetitive patterns and to examine the behavior as rationally pursued criminal "career" - but it's a career that could make a digression or disappear at any time.

Carrey and McGregor certainly succeed in getting all funny. Carrey anti-hero is, after all, a very intelligent man, who is doing many things due to a real mental capacity, it complements, unfortunately with lies. (There is a beautiful montage sequence in which Steven says a lawyer "joke at work, and surprised when dozens of people telling the same bad joke, revealing their various prejudices rude.)

And there's something funny and touching about this anarchy, aborted love story, a relationship that no chaotic leaders sentenced to understand, and it is very confusing and chaotic quality of the relationship announced it is from real life. Steven cliffs and wiring are probably just a larger version of the wildly false-it-till you make it routine that many people quite honest feel the need to use. Poor Steven does not see as basically one of those decent, honest types. "Sometimes you have to cut a little piece of the puzzle to make it fit," he recalls. The puzzle fit together very entertaining here.
