Garmin Nuvi Recall

Garmin has announced that it will be recalling about 1.3 million Nuvi worldwide because of problems with the battery of the gadget.

Garmin said it had "identified the problems of overheating" which may make the device Nuvi a fire hazard.

Garmin said the battery supplier has agreed to share the cost of replacement batteries and the recall will not materially affect its financial results. According to Garmin, the Nuvi include those which are defective with the following model numbers: 200W, 250W, 260W and the nuvi 7XX (where XX is a two-digit number). The model number is located on the nüvi label on the back or bottom of the GPS device.

The company said owners should not attempt to remove the battery or the service on their own, and requested that any unit affected be taken for installation of Garmin-authorized.

Garmin has launched a recall in 2009 of his BlueChart g2 and g2 Vision data cards. PC World said at the time, "the 2009 version of Garmin BlueChart g2 and g2 Vision data card provides incorrect information on the depth of water off the coast of Sweden and Denmark."

Nuvi owners were directed to this site to see if their device was recalled.
